Community Area Events

Citizens Memorial Healthcare hosted its sixth annual Burgundy Ball, a community appreciation event, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.19, at the University Plaza in Springfield. Banta Foods is the presenting sponsor of the evening. Six hundred people from Bolivar and the surrounding communities attended the event. Famed actress and comedienne Vicki Lawrence was the guest speaker. Previous speakers have included Sugar Ray Leonard, Carl Edwards, Ozzie Smith, Anne Jillian and Kevin Sharp.

Proceeds from the live and silent auctions support programs and services at the Carrie J. Babb Cancer Center at CMH. The Cancer Center includes medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, lymphedema therapy, social services, support services and a patient library. It is staffed by Leo Shunyakov, M.D., and Renee L. Bartlett, M.D., board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine.
